(mt) Media Temple's new Django GridContainer system, another industry first, allows (gs) Grid-Service customers to have their own dedicated Django server. The GridContainer provides an unshared copy of Django, utilizing lighttpd and persistent FastCGI, along with dedicated RAM and CPU resources. This allows for a stable, high performing, application environment. The technology is based on the same proven approach that is successfully powering the MySQL and RoR GridContainer systems. It eliminates the ambiguous and disruptive nature of a shared model and allows customers the confidence that any performance limitations derive only from the RAM and CPU limitations of the Django GridContainer itself, not from competing customers.

(gs) Grid-Service - Django GridContainer - Beta
Private Beta testing is now in the final stages. We're still accepting applications for testers actively using Django for their web development projects. Apply here to be considered. Existing testers can follow the project in the forums. You can also keep updated on the latest project announcements by visiting the Django GridContainer section of the weblog.

Benefits:

  • The Django GridContainer utilizes lighttpd in front of persistent FastCGI processes. Applications are running all the time so processing time is as small as possible.

  • No sharing of resources. The only limitation is the container resources themselves (RAM, CPU). No bad neighbor effect.

  • On demand upgrades. At any time, a customer is able to upgrade to a higher level GridContainer. Although the base container will be sufficient for the vast majority of customers - there are clearly some who require more. If a customer requires greater resources or wishes to deploy more applications, they can easily upgrade the container (by clicking a button) to a level which meets their application requirements.

  • Reboot capable. In the event a customer exceeds the RAM/CPU limitations of their GridContainer they can reboot on-the-fly and reset to a fresh environment.

  • Simple but powerful management tool, mtd - our custom shell toolkit, simplifies application management.

  • Focused resources and disk I/O management: Django GridContainer is optimized and tuned for optimum Django performance and to handle disk I/O for the single container, not an entire server. This results in improved speed and reliability.

  • Does not count against GPUs. Use as much as you want within the limits of your Django GridContainer resources. No usage fees or confusing billing procedures.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience with the Python programming language and Django development framework.
  • Provide consistent feedback in the forums on stability and performance of your Django applications.
  • Have an active, or soon to be active, (gs) Grid-Service account.
  • Accept the terms of the Beta Test Program - Participation Agreement
  • Submit a Beta Test Program - Application

Desire:

  • Previous experience building and deploying Django applications in hosted environments is a big plus. We want to see how this technology works with real world applications.
